Ideas for P2

Raven Steals the Sun is a Native American folklore story about the origin of the sun. I like the idea of playing with light and dark in two panels, like the Rapunzel piece--- perhaps with cut-out imagery interacting with both panels.

Stone Soup is an old folk tale about travelers who come to a village and ask for food, get denied, and decide to boil water with just a stone in it. The curious villagers come over one-by-one and donate small portions of ingredients to the "stone soup" until the soup is rich and plentiful -- moral of the story is to share! I may play with the "sum of its parts" idea....

The Ant and the Grasshopper is one of Aesop's Fables, and tells the story of a grasshopper who spends the warm summer days playing while the ants are all busy preparing for winter. Of course, the grasshopper ends up starving and cold at the colony's doorstep. Moral: think ahead! I have only ever seen the Disney cartoon of this story, and didn't actually know until today that it is one of Aesop's Fables. The Disney version is much more flowery and forgiving in the end----unlike the original story. I would like to play with the seasons via imagery across two (summer/winter) or four (spring, summer, fall, winter) panels in order to tell the story. I could also play with the storyline by starting the story in the fall, or by switching the roles of the critters.

I was also reminded of Shel Silverstein's wonderful stories today and would enjoy playing with his style, but so far I think the Raven's story about sun/no sun and the Grasshopper season ideas are most exciting to me......
